BRADENTON -- Bradenton Police Department officers stopped a white work truck in the 500 block of 14th Street West Monday after receiving a description of a vehicle possibly transporting a shooting victim, according to reports.

The stop was in connection to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office investigation after deputies responded at about 2:25 p.m. Monday to the 7900 block of Tamiami Trail North where witnesses said one man had been shot. Witnesses said the suspect was hiding at the Deluxe Inn, 8071 N. Tamiami Trail.

According to sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow, the suspect fled the motel as deputies approached and was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

"They basically saw the suspect running across the street and were able to take him into custody," said Bristow.

Witnesses said the victim had left in a vehicle driven by a friend who was taking him to the hosptial. At 3:51 p.m., Bradenton police officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of 14th Street West in downtown Bradenton.

Paramedics responded and transported the victim the remainder of the way to the hospital.

The 38-year-old victim was listed in stable condition. He was shot once in the midsection.

John Dimasi, 53, is listed as the suspect.

Bristow said Dimasi was being interviewed by dectectives and a motive was not yet known. However, the two are known to each other.
