I thought we lost a good one, but ...

I was very disappointed when I heard that Dr. Mary Cantrell was being let go as the director of Manatee Technical Institute (MTI). Maybe school Superintendent Rick Mills doesn't like winners.

Eighteen years ago, Dr. Cantrell took an afterthought of the school board, Manatee VoTech, and made it MTI, a locally, state and nationally respected institution.

Apparently, the powers that be don't like success. I felt bad for the county loosing this valuable resource, but lo and behold, Dr. "Can Do" Cantrell was not yet done serving Manatee County, and has agreed to run for the school board.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, when she is elected you will see an energetic, caring, straight-shooting professional help bring some integrity back to the school board. She will always have a sincere commitment to the students and the budget.

Dr. Cantrell, thanks for giving us another chance.
