MANATEE — One person has died in a crash between two trucks on Interstate 75, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash between a white Ford pickup truck and a semi occurred about 1:04 p.m. Thursday near mile marker 234 in Parrish, according to FHP. Troopers arrived on scene at 1:40 p.m.

The crash caused a roadblock in the right lane on I-75 southbound, which reopened at 4:17 p.m.

The driver of the pickup truck rear-ended a semi-trailer truck, reported FHP trooper Ken Watson. The pickup truck rolled over and blocked the right lane on I-75 southbound, he said.

Paramedics found the driver of the pickup truck, the sole occupant, was killed in the crash. The deceased driver’s name has not been released pending notification of family.

“The driver of the pickup truck is going to be the at-fault driver,” Watson said over the phone Thursday night. “That was determined via several eyewitnesses and evidence on scene.”

FHP traffic homicide investigators are working the case to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. There was no word on the condition of the semi-truck driver.
