MANATEE COUNTY -- A recent principal appointment for Lakewood Ranch High School has turned down the job, Manatee school district officials said Wednesday.

Superintendent Rick Mills appointed Justin Terry, who served as director of academic and career connections in the Wylie Independent School District in Wylie, Texas, during the 2013-14 school year, to the Lakewood Ranch job. The school board approved the appointment Tuesday.

Terry notified the district Wednesday he would not be taking the job, and instead would stay in his current district, taking a promotion and a pay raise, said Stephen Valley, district spokesman.

"That search will start immediately," Valley said.

The board approved eight principal positions Tuesday night, including four internal candidates and four external candidates.

The board also discussed holding a workshop about the principal pay scale, which was called antiquated and unfair by board members Tuesday. The board did not set a date for the workshop.
