BRADENTON -- A gunman shot a man in the abdomen in the road early Monday morning, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Witnesses reportedly said two men were arguing in the road at the 2000 block of 13th Street West at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday when Eugene Marshall, 26, pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the abdomen, then fled on foot.
Marshall has not been caught, according to Bradenton police. He faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
He is considered armed and dangerous, police report.
Witnesses reportedly told police the argument was about a drug deal gone bad.
The victim was transported to Blake Medical Center where he reportedly underwent surgery and is recovering in stable condition.
Marshall is out on bond on a May 16 possession of marijuana charge. At the time of his arrest, he was also charged with tampering with evidence but the State Attorney's Office chose to prosecute him only on possession.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in that case at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday. Marshall was released Aug. 6, 2013, from the Florida Department of Corrections after serving a four-year sentence for one count possession of cocaine and two counts selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school in Charlotte County. Prior convictions in Manatee and Sarasota counties also include possession of marijuana and robbery.
