SARASOTA - The Sarasota Police Department responded to a call about a suicidal suspect on the Ringling Bridge Tuesday evening.

"She just got taken down by officers - pulled off the rail," said Genevieve Judge, spokeswoman for the department.

The incident occurred on the bridge's westbound lanes, she confirmed over the phone.

Lanes were closed from Gulf Stream to Bird Key.

"The road is going to remain closed for a while," said Judge.

Judge said the woman is in police custody right now.

"We're just going to talk to her and see what's going on," said Judge.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police tweeted that the road would be reopened within 15 minutes.
