New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann was named the National League Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday.

Zimmermann won both of his starts last week, tossing 17 scoreless innings.

After holding the Philadelphia Phillies to five hits over eight frames last Tuesday, he struck out 12 while tossing a two-hit shutout at San Diego on Sunday.

Zimmermann is the first Nationals pitcher to earn the honor since Stephen Strasburg nearly four years ago.
