Write-in candidate files for seat on Manatee County Commission

MANATEE -- Troy Thomas has filed to run for the Manatee County Commission District 2 seat as a write-in candidate, according to official records.

Thomas, a resident of Palmetto, joins two other candidates, Corie M. Holmes and Charles B. Smith, both of whom are running as Democrats in next fall's elections.

Incumbent Commissioner Michael Gallen, also a Democrat, is running for re-election.

Gallen, the commission's lone Democrat, leads his challengers in monetary contributions, with $23,446.42, while Holmes has collected $1,798.98 and Smith has collected $945, according to the Manatee County Supervisor of Elections website.

Former commissioner Gwendolyn Brown, also a Democrat, has withdrawn from the race.
