MANATEE -- A 26-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening after he twice hit another man with his car, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 8 p.m., Evan T. Lewis and a friend had gone to the Family Dollar store at 3626 First St., they said, to take a photograph of the victim's photograph, ostensibly so they could get a restraining order, according to a news release.

Once they took the photograph, the victim exited the store and confronted Lewis, throwing an unknown item at his car as he passed.

As the victim went to retrieve the item, Lewis "began to drive to the area of the item in an attempt to beat (the victim) there," the report states.

As the victim, bent down to pick the item up, he was hit by Lewis's car, the sheriff's office said.

The victim fell onto the hood and windshield of the car, tumbled over the vehicle and landed on the ground, according to the report.

"He got up as Evan turned around in the parking lot. Evan then sped up and struck (the victim) a second time," the report states.

The victim fled the area and drove to the sheriff's office's Operations Center on 301 Boulevard to report what had happened.

Lewis was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery. He was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.

The victim was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
