FHP seeks hit-and-run driver suspect in Manatee

June 8, 2014

MANATEE — A man and woman sustained minor injuries in a hit-and-run crash at 12:50 p.m. Sunday at a railroad crossing in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A silver Dodge van was eastbound on 26th Avenue East and a 2006 Pontiac G6 was westbound on 26th Avenue East, according to FHP.

The railroad arms for an approaching train had come down across 26th Avenue East ahead of the van, which made a U-turn to avoid the tracks and struck the left side of the Pontiac before fleeing westbound on 26th Avenue East and turning south on Ninth Street East.

The license plate number of the van was obtained by the Pontiac driver and FHP is trying to find the hit-and-run suspect driver.

A right-front headlight assembly was found from the van at the scene. The hit-and-run suspect driver was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s or 40s.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call FHP at 239-938-1800 and leave a message for Trooper Barbara Ehrhart.
