Health care workshops 'an exercise in futility'

June 6, 2014

A health care "listening session" took place Wednesday at the Bradenton Area Convention Center.SARA KENNEDY/skennedy@bradenton.com

The health care workshops that the county commissioners had were an exercise in futility. The county doesn't run a health care plan, it only reimburses businesses that are in the health care business,

The way they get the money for that is to raise taxes either by the half-cent sales tax or raising property taxes. County residents voted 61 percent against raising the sales tax last summer.

Why put anymore money into this? The $196,000 they want to spend on another health care study should stay in the trust fund to be used as the contract says and discontinue the fund when it is gone.

County government should not be in the health care business. We already have state and federal government health care on the backs of taxpayers.
