Florida Highway Patrol looks for hit-and-run driver after Manatee cyclist hurt

June 5, 2014

MANATEE — A blue Nissan eastbound on State Road 684 in the right lane about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday turned right onto Wildwood Springs Boulevard in Manatee County and failed to slow for a bicyclist, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The 46-year-old male bicyclist told FHP the left front of the vehicle hit him. The driver reportedly stopped to give the cyclist a ride to a church about 200 feet from the point of impact — then left the scene. The cyclist sustained minor injuries, according to FHP.

No skid marks or debris were found on the roadway. The bicyclist said the Nissan had a broken left front headlight and the driver is a 5-foot-6 white male in his 30s with short brown hair. No license tag number was obtained.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call FHP at 239-938-1800 and leave a message for Trooper Barbara Ehrhart.
