BRADENTON -- A 21-year-old man was charged with possession of marijuana, despite his best efforts to eat the evidence of a crime, according to Bradenton police.

Officers with the Casual Clothes Unit on Wednesday evening made a traffic stop of Qwame Johnson in the 100 block of Ninth Avenue West, because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, according to a report.

Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said.

"Mr. Johnson was removed from the vehicle, and seen eating marijuana. CCU members were unable to recover the marijuana," the report states.

However, a search of the vehicle uncovered another bag of marijuana, police said.

Johnson was arrested and taken to the Manatee County jail after he was medically cleared at Manatee Memorial Hospital. He was being held on bonds totaling $2,000 for charges of possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence.
