Deputies charge teen with underage Lakewood Ranch drinking bash

June 3, 2014

LAKEWOOD RANCH — A Lakewood Ranch man has been charged with having an open house party with minors drinking alcohol or using drugs, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:29 a.m. Tuesday, 18-year-old Matthew Bradley Mellquist was arrested after two sheriff’s deputies went to his home to investigate a loud noise complaint with underage drinking.

Standing by the tree line, deputies reportedly saw up to 35 juveniles drinking beer by the pool. When they asked to speak to the owner, Mellquist reportedly claimed to be the homeowner and said he was in charge of the party.

Mellquist reportedly said: “I knew we had beer in my house, I knew that they were drinking it but I don’t know how old they were.”

He was booked in jail Tuesday on $120 bond and released the same day.
