BRADENTON — An Ellenton man was charged with shoplifting after stealing a battery from a Lowe’s store, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

At 4:30 p.m. Monday, 22-year-old Steven Lee Nease was arrested at the store, 4012 14th St. W., Bradenton.

Store security personnel reportedly noticed Nease opening an 18-volt battery package and putting one in his pocket. He reportedly passed all points of sale without attempting to pay on his way to the exit.

Nease was then stopped and detained by security. The stolen merchandise was valued at $99.

Nease reportedly admitted to entering the store to steal the battery. He reportedly said he needed it for work and couldn’t afford to buy it.

Nease was booked in jail and was being held without bond.
