Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Wil Myers on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a right wrist sprain and recalled first baseman/outfielder Jerry Sands from Triple-A Durham.

Myers sat out Saturday's 7-1 setback against the Red Sox after injuring his wrist when he collided with teammate Desmond Jennings in the outfield during the 10th inning of Friday's 3-2 loss in Boston.

The 23-year-old Myers has batted just .227 with five home runs and 25 RBI over 53 games this season.

Sands was batting .268 with nine homers and 36 RBI in 54 games at Durham this season.

The 26-year-old made his major league debut in 2011 and appeared in 70 games over parts of two seasons with the Dodgers before being shipped to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Dec. 26, 2012. He didn't appear in a game with the Pirates before being acquired by the Rays off waivers on Dec. 23, 2013.
