Woman arrested after concealing items in sweater, purse at Sarasota Walmart

SARASOTA -- A Sarasota woman was charged with petty/grand theft shoplifting Thursday evening after stealing multiple items from a Sarasota Walmart and concealing them in a sweater and purse, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

At 5:38 p.m., 54-year-old Kim M. Williams was arrested at Walmart Supercenter, 8320 Lockwood Ridge Rd., Sarasota. According to a report, a store employee observed Williams with a sweater and purse concealing "several DVDs, clothing, electronic items, health and beauty items." Williams passed all points of sale and ignored the theft deterrent alarm when it was set off.

"The defendant did not stop, even after loss prevention asked her to do so," a report states.

According to a news release, employees tried to stop Williams, and she was escorted back to the office to await law enforcement. While waiting, Williams said she would pay double the cost of the merchandise.

Williams was booked in jail and released Friday on $120 bond.
