Manatee County schools superintendent's contract request out of line

May 30, 2014

While reading Monday's article on raising the prices of lunches for school children, I wondered why just last week the superintendent of the schools, Rick Mills, was requesting more money and less oversight.

Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy? He receives almost $200,000 a year, with benefits, and it is not enough.

What has he done to deserve anything other than a pink slip? The school board, under his leadership, wants to sell off assets in order to continue services. This is crazy. What happened to the money?

Perhaps Mr. Mills should do something before he asks for more.

His position absolutely needs more oversight, not less. Stop wasting money on someone who never should have been hired.

His contract is now good until 2016, but he wants one longer. How many of you readers are guaranteed your job, with raises, for the next two years?
