Weather alert: Manatee County under severe thunderstorm warning until 5:45 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Manatee and southern Hillsborough counties until 5:45 p.m.

At 5:28 p.m., National Weather Service forecasters continued to detect a severe thunderstorm capable of producing hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located 6 miles southeast of Little Manatee River State Park, or 17 miles east of Palmetto, and moving northwesterly at 10 mph, according to the Weather Service.

Other locations in the warning area include Fish Hawk, Bloomingdale, Riverview, Lithia Springs State Park, Gibsonton, Boyette, Sun City Center, Ruskin, Wimauma, Parrish and Apollo Beach.
