PGA golfer buys into Concession for $2.05 million

EAST MANATEE -- The golf course at The Concession Golf Club will likely get more regular, pro-level workouts when PGA tournament winner J.B. Holmes moves into his new house down the street.

On May 16, Holmes purchased a 6,300-square-foot home at 19445 Ganton Ave. in The Concession for $2.05 million, according to Manatee County records. The seller was Beau Follett. Follett purchased the .78-acre property in 2010 for $1.45 million.

Ranked No. 71 in the world, Holmes bought the Ganton Avenue home on the heels of his third win on the PGA tour. On May 4, he won the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., besting fellow U.S. pro Jim Furyk by one stroke.

His purse for the win was $1.24 million. He has won a total of $1.87 million this year and has notched six top-25 finishes, according to the PGA website.

Tony Panico, a Realtor with Concession Real Estate, represented Holmes and his wife, Erica, in the transaction. Panico said the couple started looking for a home in The Concession after Holmes played a recent round of golf on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Concession course.

The couple looked at nine houses in the exclusive, high-end development. They lost a bidding contest for a 9,000-square-foot home at 18808 Ganton Ave. to Michael J. Stone earlier this month. Stone, who claimed a Peoria, Ill., address at the time, purchased that property for $2.85 million on May 12, according to county records.

But on the second try for a house in The Concession, the couple was successful. What they settled upon is a five-bedroom, five-bath home that comes with a four-car garage, an elevator and a two-story great room. It is slightly larger than a house Holmes has owned in the Isleworth neighborhood in Windermere since 2008. According to the Multiple

Listing Service, that property is currently for sale for $2.18 million.

Panico said homes in The Concession are selling, many to people who are well known in their professions. Holmes won't be the only professional athlete in the development: Panico said he recently sold a Concession lot to Pittsburg Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton.

The Holmes, he said, will fit well into the community.

"It's great for The Concession," Panico said. "It's great for J.B. and Erica."

Homes in The Concession have been spending a significant amount of time of the market. The property Holmes purchased was listed for 169 days before it sold. But the demand is there. Five other properties have closed recently or are in the process of closing, Panico said.

As of Wednesday, six homes in The Concession were listed for sale. The 1,232-acre development has seen sales success this year, according to Concession Real Estate statistics. Thirty-four home sites in the development have sold in 2014, more than the 32 during all of 2013.
