BRADENTON -- Officers found three children, ages 6, 7 and 8, in an abandoned car containing 7.5 grams of rock cocaine and a small amount of marijuana early Tuesday morning, according to a Bradenton police report.

Police believe Jerron Moultrie, 36, was operating a vehicle in the Villa-Park neighborhood when he noticed a police cruiser. Upon seeing the marked cruiser, the suspect reportedly sped from the scene driving erratically around the neighborhood.

Police temporarily lost the suspect, but found the car a few minutes later at 12:32 a.m. parked in the backyard of a residence in the 2100 block of 15th Avenue East.

Three children were still in the back seat, all unharmed but terrified and distraught, according to police. Police arranged for grandparents to take care of the children.

There was also 50 pieces of rock cocaine and marijuana in the car, according to the report.

Moultrie faces numerous criminal charges, police said.

The report did not specify whether or not he was already arrested and Capt. William Fowler said he did not know.

The Manatee County jail website has no one listed under that name in custody.
