Weather alert: Thunderstorms moving through Manatee on Tuesday afternoon

MANATEE -- The National Weather Service has issued a "special weather statement" for western Manatee County after meteorologists detected thunderstorms near Samoset.

At 4:10 p.m., the storm was located 7 miles east of Bradenton, moving northwest at 5 mph. It was expected to affect Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, Parrish and Samoset, according to the Weather Service.

The Weather Service said the storm could include gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph, frequent lightening and pea-sized hail.

"To be safe, go indoors immediately," the Weather Service said.
