UNIVERSITY PARK -- Retail is so bright at the Mall at University Town Center, another store is offering shades.

Solstice Sunglasses is planning a 937-square-foot boutique inside the Mall at UTC, which is expected to open Oct. 16.

Solstice has more than 135 stores across the country and the Mall at UTC location would be the company's 23rd Florida location. Solstice also has locations at Westfield Brandon, International Plaza and Westfield Countryside Mall.

The store offers luxury and designer frames and is owned by the Safilo Group, which owns eyewear brands such as Carrera, Polaroid, Smith Optics and Oxydo.

Solstice will compete against luxury eyewear company Edward Benier at the mall and join other high-end stores, including Crate & Barrel, Apple and Saks Fifth Avenue.

The 880,000-square-foot mall is a partnership between Taubman Centers and Benderson Development Co., and will be off Cattlemen Road and University Parkway.
