Myakka migrant farm camp fight sends 2 to hospital

MANATEE — A fight Saturday night at a migrant farm camp in the 38000 block of 110th Street East in Myakka led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man on a charge of aggravated battery.

Jose Ramirez-Soria remained in the Manatee County jail Sunday night with no bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office website.

Soria and the victim, another man whose age was not given, live at the camp. At about 9:37 p.m., an argument reportedly began between Soria and the victim who was struck in the back of the head with a beer bottle. A friend of the victim reportedly came to his aid by striking Soria in the left side with a small barbell.

The parties were separated by the time the sheriff’s office arrived.

The suspect and victim were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
