Sam Woolf sighted on 'American Idol' finale

HERALD STAFF REPORTMay 22, 2014

Bradenton's Sam Woolf made one last appearance this season on "American Idol" in the Wednesday finale where rocker Caleb Johnson won the competition over runner-up Jena Irene at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Johnson opened with Queen's "We Will Rock You" leading into Irene's rendition of "I'm Just A Girl."

Then they paired to duet on "It's Only Love."

Master of ceremonies Ryan Seacrest was resplendent in a black-tie ensemble with judges Jennifer Lopez in a shiny silver-white outfit, Keith Urban sporting a skinny tie and Harry Connick in a tux.

Sam Woolf, the 18-year-old Braden River High School singing-songwriter sensation who finished fifth in the competition, came to the stage to perform "Home" with Phillip Phillips.

Woolf will have plenty of other Idol reunions as he's scheduled to play more than two dozen dates during the show's summer tour.

The final two performers won Ford Mustangs.

Urban said the judges did not agree on the winner. At 9:59 p.m., Johnson was proclaimed the winner.
