Man arrested in Palmetto after scuffle with police officer

PALMETTO — A man was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer Tuesday after he kicked an arresting officer in Palmetto, according to the Palmetto Police Department.

Armel Robinson, 39, was arrested at 11:31 p.m. Tuesday at 200 10th St. W., Palmetto, after officers responded to a call by a store manager at Ready Deli, who claimed that Robinson was selling drugs in front of the store, 203 10th St. W., Palmetto.

According to a report, the manager wanted Robinson formally trespassed and, after an officer detained him while another patted him down for weapons, Robinson began to kick backward using his right foot, police said. The officer was in full police uniform.

Robinson has previous charges of failing to leave property upon order by owner. He was booked in Manatee County jail on $1,500 bond.
