BRADENTON -- A 14-year old girl was carried out into the Manatee River by strong currents Tuesday night after she went into the water to retrieve a ball, according to Bradenton police.

She was playing with a ball at the splash pad at 10:18 p.m. when she went into the Manatee River to grab the ball, according to a police report.

She was swept out by the current and it carried her to the day boat docks, where she was able to grab on to the dock until someone pulled her from the water. She was only treated for minor cuts, police said.
