Sarasota woman fights off attacker, crowd chases him away

SARASOTA -- A man who attacked a woman escaped from a crowd chasing him in the of the 300 block of Coconut Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Sarasota police officers.

The victim said a male approached her as she left work, asked to use her phone and then threw her to the ground.

The victim fought the subject off and fled the area to summon the police.

The subject was chased by citizens drawn to the area, but was not apprehended. He was last seen in the area of 10th Street and Lemon Avenue.

The suspect is described as a male, late 20s or early 30s, short braided hair and little facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a black zippered fleece type jacket, white shirt and blue jeans.

The suspect may have suffered an injury to one of his hands.
