Water School 2014 to take look at crucial Manatee County resource

Registration underway for Water School 2014

MANATEE -- Water School 2014 is set for May 29-30 at Rogers Auditorium at the Manatee County Fairgrounds, 1303 17th St. W., Palmetto.

This two-day event provides an in-depth look at the issues facing one of Manatee County's most precious natural resources.

Day One includes an array of speakers on a variety of water-related topics such as:

• Water supply: Past and present

• Water quality issues: Perspectives

• Public perception of water issues

• Effects of future development

• Policy maker perspective

• Public policy and civic engagement.

Day Two includes a guided tour of Manatee County water resources and a firsthand look at issues talked about on Day One.

The fee is $40, which covers two lunches and all refreshments. The program is presented by University of Florida/IFAS Manatee County Extension.

Myakka City Foundation plans celebrity bartender event

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The Myakka City Foundation is hosting a celebrity bartender event from 6-9 p.m. May 22 at the Lakewood Ranch Polo Grill.

Cory Hildreth and Duane Allison of One Night Rodeo will serve as celebrity bartenders.

An autographed One Night Rodeo guitar and a custom cut side of beef will be raffled. There will also be some silent auction items, including four tickets to SeaWorld Orlando.
