Bonds set at $121K for Bradenton man charged with sexually battering mother of his kids

BRADENTON -- A Bradenton man was charged Monday with battering the mother of his children, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Hector Alfredo Lopez-Cortez, 30, was arrested at 9:52 p.m. Monday on charges of sexual battery, aggravated assault, felony battery (domestic battery by strangulation), battery and false imprisonment after he reportedly grabbed and sexually battered the victim around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Lopez-Cortez and the victim have reportedly been living separately for about a year and have two children together.

Lopez-Cortez reportedly was drunk when he knocked on the front door, deputies said. The victim was asleep and one of the children opened the door after seeing the father.

"The defendant spent some time with the children, but because he was drunk, they began to cry asking him to leave," the news release states.

Lopez-Cortez reportedly went to the victim's room and saw a picture of her, the children and a male friend together. He reportedly became furious, told the victim he didn't want any other man near his children and grabbed her throat.

"The victim with trouble breathing was able to shout: "Are you crazy! Do you want to kill me? I can't breathe! The kids are watching!"

Lopez-Cortez reportedly responded: "I prefer to see you dead."

He then held reportedly her against her will in the living room, took her to the bedroom and sexually battered her, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim was able to get free and called a friend to follow her vehicle for safety. Lopez-Cortez reportedly intercepted the vehicles two times by trying to hit them with his own car.

Lopez-Cortez was booked on bonds totaling $121,000.
