Astros' Cisnero to have Tommy John surgery

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Houston Astros reliever Jose Cisnero needs Tommy John surgery, the team announced Tuesday.

Cisnero will have the procedure to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow next week in Houston.

He was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week. Recovery time after the operation is generally at least 12 months.

The Astros said an MRI taken Tuesday showed no damage in the pitching shoulder of right-handed reliever Matt Albers, who has been on the DL since last month.

Albers was given a cortisone shot in his shoulder for inflammation and will not throw for 10 days, the Astros said.
