Sheriff: Palmetto man punches neighbor over $3

MANATEE -- A Palmetto man was charged and arrested Monday after swinging at his neighbor over a few dollars, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Charles Brent McNeal, 53, was arrested at 4:01 p.m. on a battery charge after he punched his neighbor about owing him $3, according to a news release.

McNeal's arrest took place near his home on 12th Street Court West.

According to a sworn affidavit from the victim, he had no idea what McNeal was talking about when he approached him about the money. McNeal charged at the victim, swinging his fists at him, according to a probable cause affidavit.

In an attempt to get away from McNeal, the victim fell, according to deputies. McNeal then got on top of the victim and began punching him on the left side of his face. According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim thinks he was hit four to six times by McNeal in the face. The victim suffered abrasions/lacerations to the left side of his face and was attended by Manatee County EMS, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

McNeal, who has a history of battery charges dating back to 2008, was taken into custody without incident and is being held on $1,500 bond.
