MANATEE -- County parks officials are proposing changes in their fee schedules, with new fees for adult softball teams and youth sports programs, and higher fees for CPR/First Aid.
Fees for athletic rentals for adult flag football teams would drop, however.
The proposals are meant to simplify what has become a complex fee arrangement, said Mike Whelan, division manager/recreation for the Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department.
Player Michael David said he was surprised to hear about a proposed new fee of $200 for adult softball teams.
"I would say it's not real good," he said. "I would have a problem with it if it wasn't justified."
Officials want to drop a range of charges and add a more specific charge, Whelan said, adding, "It's meant to eliminate confusion."
Part of the confusion stems from the merger last fall of the Parks & Recreation and the Natural Resources Departments, each of which had separate fee schedules, Charlie Hunsicker, parks department director, said in agenda documents.
Hunsicker is slated to review the new fee schedule today during a workshop meeting with the Manatee County Commission.
Among the proposals:
New fees of $200 for adult softball teams, and $45 for youth sports
An increase in fees for CPR/First Aid from $35 to $70
A decrease in fees from $585 to $400 for athletic rentals for adult flag football teams
Rental rates for primitive short-term cabin rentals at Jiggs Landing of $40/night/minimum stay
