New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The NHL fined New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist $5,000 on Monday for squirting Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby in the face with water during Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

As a scrum broke out in front of the Rangers' net at the end of the second period, Lundqvist skated past the pile and sprayed water in the face of Crosby, who was tangled up in the melee.

Lundqvist was not assessed a penalty on the play and went on to post 36 saves in a 3-1 win for the Rangers to force a Game 7 in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Boston's Shawn Thornton received a $2,820 fine on Sunday for squirting Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban in the face with water during Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal set.

Both players were fined the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement. Lundqvist's fine was higher because he makes more than Thornton.

The money goes to the players' emergency assistance fund.
