BRADENTON -- A Bradenton man who was being interviewed over allegations of child abuse was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer after he allegedly slapped a deputy across the face during questioning.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Scott Brannam, 40, was arrested Sunday at 2:20 p.m. at 4325 80th St W.

The arresting officer was responding to a juvenile complaint when Brannam said his daughter was misbehaving "by screaming and refusing to do her chores," according to a probable cause affidavit.

"The defendant then stated he slapped his daughter in the face and slapped me across the face," the report states.

The deputy placed Brannam under arrest right away and spoke to the man's daughter, who confirmed that her father hit her because she wasn't listening.

No injuries were observed, according to the report.

Brannam was booked into Manatee County jail without bond.
