Six busted in undercover buy-bust in Sarasota

SARASOTA -- Six men were arrested May 9 as a result of an undercover buy bust operation in downtown Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

The operation was carried out by the department's Narcotics Unit with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit and targeted the sale and possession of designer drugs.

The suspects, who were arrested in the southwest parking lot of Sarasota City Hall, 1565 First St., are:

n Ryan M. Jarecki, 28, charged with possession of a designer drug.

n James E. Valentin, 24, charged with the sale of a designer drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

n Anthony Dilorenzo, 30, charged with possession of a designer drug.

n Jack L. Cook Jr., 50, charged with possession of a designer drug.

n Donald Gould, 50, charged with possession of a designer drug.

n John W. Whitney, 44, charged with possession of a legend drug and trespassing after warning.

According to Lieutenant Pat Ledwith, who works for the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sarasota Police Department, these substances are "not safe alternatives to illicit drugs."

"Many times, they can cause serious harm and can even cause death. These are very dangerous substances and not manufactured for human consumption," Lt. Ledwith said in a statement. "Who knows where this stuff is made? It could be made in someone's garage or bathroom. Do you want that in your body?"
