Anthony Toro, armed robbery, no bond.

MANATEE -- A suspect was arrested early Monday after he hit a man over the head with a beer wallet and robbed him, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Anthony L. Toro, 47, was arrested after a deputy chased him down, according to a news release.

About 12:44 a.m., the victim let Toro and a woman into his room at the Michiana Motel, 3235 14th St. W., Bradenton. The victim did not know Toro but figured he was with the woman, according to the report.

Toro asked for a drink, and the victim gave him one.

A few minutes later, Toro struck the victim on the head with a beer bottle, removed $104 from his wallet and fled.

The victim ran from his room, yelling he had just been robbed. Several people struggled with Toro in the parking lot, but he got away, according to the report.

The victim identified Toro as his assailant, and the stolen money was recovered from his pocket, the sheriff's office said.

The woman who had been in the motel room with the men could not be found.

Toro faces a charge of armed robbery. He was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
