Anthony Wegner, false imprisonment of an adult, $1,500 bond

MANATEE — A 24-year-old Manatee County man spent part of Sunday in Blake Hospital and part of the day in jail after he was stabbed with scissors by a woman he was reportedly attacking.

Anthony Wegner, now charged with battery and false imprisonment, was stabbed in the upper chest by the woman, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The attack was reported in the 3100 block of 39th Avenue East at 1:58 a.m. Sunday.

Wegner and the woman live together and have a child, according to the report.

A verbal argument turned physical when Wegner reportedly punched the woman in the face multiple times. Wegner reportedly blocked a closed bedroom door to preventing the woman from leaving.

The trapped woman reportedly stabbed Wegner with a pair of scissors yet he continued to punch her.

The woman escaped and called 911. She was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment of several cuts and facial bruises. Wegner’s injuries were non-life threatening.

Wegner was in the Manatee County jail late Sunday afternoon on a $1,500 bond, according to the sheriff’s office jail website.
