Sarasota sex offender arrested for failing to register

May 9, 2014

From the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office:

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a registered sex offender with a violent criminal history for not providing a valid residential address.

Deputies doing sex offender checks in late April learned Charles Becker, DOB 1-9-64, was not living at the location that he registered with the state. Through their investigation they determined he had been staying in the 2700 block of DeSoto Road, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Becker was no longer at that home, so Deputies proactively patrolled the areas he would frequent and located his vehicle. They conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody.

Becker has a criminal record that includes Sexual Assault, Lewd and Lascivious Conduct with a Child, Exposure of Sexual Organs and Aggravated Battery in at least three different counties. Becker was most recently released from prison in November 2013 after serving time for violating sex offender probation.

Becker is charged with Failing to Register as a Convicted Sexual Offender and is currently being held without bond.
