Hit-and-run Explorer clips Bradenton driver's Miata

MANATEE -- The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a hit-and-run female driver involved in an accident reported at 8:31 p.m. Thursday at 59th Street West and Cortez Road in Manatee County.

Trooper Rony Refuse of FHP reported an orange Ford Explorer driven by a Caucasian female with blonde hair was southbound on 59th Street West in the outside right-turn lane approaching State Road 684 (Cortez Road West).

A 1999 Mazda Miata driven by a 52-year-old female from Bradenton with a 17-year-old male passenger was stopped southbound on 59th Street West in the outside right-turn lane north of State Road 684 (Cortez Road West).

Approaching the Miata from behind, the Explorer began to change lanes into the inside left-turn lane and its right front struck the Miata's left-rear side.

The Explorer then left the scene. Charges are pending.

No injuries resulted from the accident.

Anyone with knowledge of the identity and or location of the hit-and-run vehicle or driver are asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.
