MANATEE -- A deputy had to use his stun gun to arrest a suspect wanted on several warrants, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 8:07 p.m. Wednesday in the 5800 block of Third Street East, a deputy made a traffic stop on Gerardo Rivera-Melgoza, who the deputy knew was wanted on two felony warrants, according to a news release.

As soon as he was pulled over, Rivera-Melgoza ran away. The deputy gave chase and was able to arrest him after he shot him with his stun gun.

Details of the warrants were not included in the report.

Booking information for Rivera-Melgoza was not available on the Manatee County jail website.
