Golf Plus | IMG alum Dryburgh selected to Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team

NOTEWORTHY

• IMG Academy alum Gemma Dryburgh was selected to the Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team.

Dryburgh was chosen as a wild card for the GB & I team to face the United States on June 6-8 at St. Louis Country Club.

Upon leaving IMG, Dryburgh headed to Tulane University, where she has won two individual tournament titles. She also holds a program record in a 54-hole tournament with an 8-under-par 208 total.

• Bradenton's Wendi Golden took 15th place at the Florida State Women's Mid-Amateur held this past weekend in Vero Beach.

Golden fired rounds of 76 and 89 at the Indian River Club. Oakland Park's Meghan Stasi defended her title with a pair of 71s.

• The Florida State Golf Association's Florida Junior Tour heads to Parrish for a stop this weekend at River Wilderness Golf and Country Club.

The event is a 16-18 age division tournament for boys and girls.

Manatee County golfers in the field include Jack Tianyi Cen, Andrew Hammett, Cole Johnson, Jesper Kasanen, Philip Knowles, Jake LaMore, Barry McDonnell, Landry Miller, Spencer Schultz, Kelly Sun and Ramsey Touchberry.

• Sam Osborne won the West Florida Golf Tour's MedActive Open at the Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club at the end of April with a 69.

The Englishman's 3-under-par round earned him a one-shot victory over four players and the $1,000 first-place check.

The runner-up quartet consisted of Matthew Galloway, Sebastian Mark, Alex Medinis and Mark Constanza.

• On March 20 at Pinebrook-Ironwood, Fran Verderame aced the 78-yard 3rd hole with a driver. Witnesses were Pamela Kane, Don Avenia and Tom Bender.

• On March 22 at Pinebrook-Ironwood, Bob Simone aced the 124-yard 5th hole with an 8-iron. Witnesses were Charlie Andrade and Mike Clayman.

• On March 26 at Bradenton Country Club, Herb Frith aced the 104-yard 16th hole with a 9-iron. Witnesses were Neil McCurry and Billy Evans.

• On March 27 at Terra Ceia Bay, Charlie Burke aced the 99-yard 11th hole with a 9-iron. Witnesses were Richard Griffin and Ralph Nemeth.

• On March 28 at University Park, Chris Chernecki aced the 142-yard 5th hole.

• On April 2 at Pinebrook-Ironwood, Ted Minke aced the 131-yard 13th hole with a pitching wedge. Witnesses were Bob Milan, Bev Wargo and Evie Klementi.

• On April 9 at Terra Ceia Bay, Mike Calleja aced the 132-yard 2nd hole with a 7-iron. Witnesses were John Boyne, Joe Starke and Larry Burbank.

• On April 12 at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, Dale Woodbury aced the 136-yard 2nd hole on the Cypress Links course with a 7-iron. Witnesses were Brad Schuchat, Bob Girard and Larry Distefano.

• On April 13 at IMG Academy, Rick Motosky aced the 156-yard 3rd hole with a 6-iron. Witnesses were Eric Bell and Mark Derry.
