Bluegrass, baseball, a symphony orchestra, fireworks and touches of "Star Wars" and Disney come together this weekend at Ed Smith Stadium.
The Sarasota Orchestra's pops concert on Saturday is at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. It's called "Outdoor Pops: Spirit of America" and it's a celebration of Americana that features John Williams' "Star Wars" theme, a reading of "Casey at the Bat" set to music, the National Anthem, and songs from "West Side Story," "Chicago" and Disney films. Traditional ballpark food and a fireworks show are also on tap.
If you're a fan of bluegrass, you'll be most excited about guest artist Molly Cherryholmes. She spent her youth as member of her family's phenomenal bluegrass band Cherryholmes, and struck out on her own in 2011.
Molly Cherryholmes is a singer, fiddle player and songwriter who, at age 21, already has five Grammy nominations to her credit. Her solo work combines elements of rock, bluegrass and even techno. At this weekend's concert, she'll perform with the orchestra on two of her own songs ("Live It" and "Goodbye"), two John Tesh tunes and a piece from "Riverdance."
