SARASOTA -- A Sarasota office for Scarborough Research, a Nielsen company, is laying off 220 workers.

Scarborough Research, 6000 Cattleridge Drive, Suite 202, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice on Tuesday for the layoffs, which are expected to happen Sept. 30.

"As part of the integration of Nielsen Audio, Nielsen has implemented changes across the company to enhance growth and to align our resources to meet and exceed client needs," a Nielsen spokesman said in a statement to the Herald. "These changes will improve productivity and innovation for the benefit of our clients and our organization."

Scarborough Research provides data and analytics for Nielsen, the television ratings company, as well as sports marketing, newspaper audience reports and other studies.

The Sarasota office is listed as a call center for part-time telephone interviewers on Scarborough's website.

CareerSource Suncoast, the region's job agency, has not heard back from Scarborough yet after reaching out to the company to help those affected, spokeswoman Sally Hill said.

Typically, the agency would explain what services would be provided to help workers transition to a new job, she said.

CareerSource is also trying to confirm how many of the 220 jobs were based in Sarasota and not out of other offices, she added.
