2 students busted after unloaded gun found at Bradenton school

MANATEE -- A fourth-grade student at Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary School carried an unloaded gun around school in his backpack for most of the day Tuesday until another student spotted it and told a teacher, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The student had been given the gun by another fourth-grader at the school, who had brought it to school after taking it from his mother's nightstand, according to a news release.

The child passed the gun to another fourth-grader, "who toted it around in his backpack for the majority of the day until it was seen by a third student who notified a teacher," the report states.

No one was injured.

Both boys were detained in the front office, and detectives responded to continue the investigation, according to the report.

Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary School is at 400 30th Ave. W., Bradenton, just west of U.S. 41.
