Skateboarder, 17, dies after being hit by car on Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton

BRADENTON -- A 17-year-old boy who was hit while riding a skateboard Sunday has died, according to Bradenton police.

The boy, whose name has not been released, died at 2:26 p.m. at Blake Medical Center, police said.

About 9:32 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the intersection of Manatee Avenue West and Palma Sola Boulevard.

Officers determined the skateboarder was traveling south through the intersection when he was struck by the driver of a vehicle traveling east on Manatee Avenue West, according to a news release.

Paramedics took the skateboarder to Blake Medical Center, where he died on Monday. Bradenton police did not release his name by 9:30 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the vehicle later told investigators that he didn't see the victim until too late to stop, according to the police report.
