BRADENTON - Bayshore's Class 5A-Region 3 softball final Friday against Wauchula Hardee was postponed because of inclement weather.

With rain expected Saturday as well, the game will be played 6 p.m. Monday at Bayshore, said Chris Brady, the school's athletic director. The Bruins are 22-4 and looking to reach the state softball semifinals for the first time in school history. Hardee is 18-6-1.

The winner advances to the Class 5A state semifinals next Friday at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, and will play the winner of the Region 2 championship game between Brooksville Hernando and Belleview.

LAKEWOOD RANCH- The Class 7A-Region 3 championship softball game between Lakewood Ranch and Melbourne was rained out Friday and re-scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. at Lakewood Ranch.

Melbourne (24-3) made the trip across state with the belief that the weather was going to clear and the game would be played. However, the downpour came soon after the team arrived.

Lakewood Ranch head softball coach Tony Cummins said the earliest the game could be made up was Monday at 4 p.m. His Mustangs (22-7) will be making their third straight region final appearance and shooting for their third straight State Final Four Appearance.

Lakewood Ranch has lost two straight years in the state semifinal.

The winner of the Lakewood Ranch-Melbourne game will play Friday at 3:35 pm or 4:50 p.m. in the 7A state semifinal at Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
