Galvano disappointed by vacation rental bill

May 2, 2014

MANATEE -- The Florida Senate OK'd a bill Thursday regulating vacation rental properties, but state Sen. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, said it would not solve problems with short-term rentals plaguing Manatee County. Galvano was one of two senators to vote against the measure, with 32 senators voting in favor.

Senate Bill 356 says a local government may not prohibit vacation rentals or regulate duration or frequency of rental stays, with some exceptions. Vacation rentals refer to short-term rental of properties to tourists, which local officials complain can cause parking, noise and trash headaches they are prohibited by law from resolving.
