Palmetto teen arrested after fight with his pregnant mother

April 30, 2014

PALMETTO — A Palmetto man was charged with knowing his mother was pregnant when he pushed her, according to the Manatee County Sherifff’s Office.

Jamal Donterius Bell, 18, is accused of pushing his mother in the living room of her residence as he was moving out of her home.

He was arrested at 9 a.m. Tuesday at his mother’s Palmetto apartment. Bell’s mother told deputies she is five months pregnant and Bell is aware she’s pregnant.

The mother told deputies her son pushed her and came back an hour and proceeded to bang on her door, yelling and cursing and demanding she call him a ride. Bell’s mother said she tried to arrange a ride for him but no one had responded. The mother said Bell started throwing items from his luggage at her apartment.

Bell’s mother said she started walking to the apartment office when she thought he was gone but Bell popped out from behind a tree and yelled at her again.

“Man, I didn’t pop my Mama in the back of the head. I said it but I’m smarter than that. I hardly shoved her,” Bell reportedly told deputies as he sat in a patrol vehicle.

Bell was booked in jail on $500 bond.
