April 29, 2014

MANATEE -- A hit-and-run driver has been charged with hitting a pedestrian on 14th Street West in Bradenton and fleeing the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The 62-year-old victim was standing in the center continuous left turn lane in the 5100 block of 14th Street West, when she was hit by a Chevrolet Sonoma driven by Aaron James Hostetler of Palmetto as he turned onto 14th Street, according to a news release.

The registered owner returned to the scene and said he had been driving the car, but an investigation revealed that Hostetler, 23, was actually the driver, FHP said.

Hostetler was charged with careless driving, driving with a suspended license and leaving scene of a crash with serious injury. He was released from the Manatee County jail after posting bonds totaling $1,620.

The woman was taken to Blake Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition, according to FHP.
